Principal organs.

Institutional Structure

The International Organization for Identity Documents (IOID) is governed by three principal organs, supported by specialized technical committees and the Internal Court of Arbitration.

Principal Organs

1. General Council

The supreme organ of the IOID, composed of representatives from all member states. It meets biennially to determine the organization's policies, approve the budget, and elect the Secretary-General and members of the Executive Council.

2. Executive Council

The governing body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the General Council's decisions. It consists of 36 member states elected by the General Council, ensuring equitable geographical representation.

3. General Secretariat

The permanent administrative organ, headed by the Secretary-General, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the IOID.

Specialized Bodies

  • Technical Committees: Composed of experts from member states and industry, responsible for developing technical specifications and standards.
  • Internal Court of Arbitration: An independent judicial body established to resolve disputes between the IOID and its staff, or concerning the interpretation of the Charter.
  • Data Protection Authority: An independent body overseeing the processing of personal data by the IOID.
