Ratification & Accession

The International Organization for Identity Documents (IOID) is open to all sovereign states that commit to the principles of the Charter.

Legal Steps

To become a member of the IOID, a state must complete the following legal steps:

1. Signature: The state must sign the Charter of the International Organization for Identity Documents.
2. Ratification: The state must ratify the Charter in accordance with its constitutional processes.
3. Deposit: The instrument of ratification must be deposited with the Office of Legal Affairs, the depositary of the Charter.

Accession

States that did not sign the Charter before its entry into force may accede to it by depositing an instrument of accession with the depositary.

Model Instruments

The IOID provides model instruments of ratification and accession to assist states in the process. These models are available in the six official languages of the organization.

Member States

The Charter of the International Organization for Identity Documents will be open for accession soon. Currently, there are no member states. Once accession begins, a complete list of member states and their dates of ratification or accession will be available on the Member States page.
